Upamecano reveals he wanted to sign for Man Utd & explains why move didn't happen

Upamecano has told
The Athletic on how close he came to becoming a United player: "I was a young boy. I wanted to sign for them straight away.
"Manchester United! But then my parents took me aside and said: ‘Let’s think carefully about this’."
Where did Upamecano end up?
Ralf Rangnick, the former sporting director of Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, convinced a hot prospect that senior football at a feeder club such as Liefering would be better for his ongoing development.
"We thought about it for a long time and then decided that going ‘etape par etape’ (step by step) was the best option for me," Upamecano added.

Bayern Munich crowned Bundesliga champions for 9th straight year
The title was secured hours before Bayern thrashed Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0.
May 9, 2021 10:54 BST
Bayern Munich has proven once again that they are on a league of their own in Germany. They celebrated their ninth straight Bundesliga title with an emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday at home at the Allianz Arena.
Polish star Robert Lewandowski was in top form as he scored a hat-trick just a few hours after it was confirmed that the title was theirs. RB Leipzig, the only remaining title contenders, dropped out of the title race earlier in the evening after losing to Borussia Dortmund 3-2. That meant that they could no longer catch up on points after starting the match already seven points behind Bayern and with three games left to play.

Jesse Marsch, the current manager of Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, is set to join the German club.
German site Kicker reported Marsch has committed to RB Leipzig after drawing interest from both Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspur.
The American will have bested two other candidates the 2016-17 Bundesliga runners-up reportedly sought: VfB Stuttgart's Pellegrino Matarazzo and VfL Wolfsburg's Oliver Glasner.

'Nagelsmann's teams always exceed expectations' - Lewandowski excited by appointment of new Bayern boss

Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness added to
Sky Germany : "Nagelsmann is a very good choice."
Lewandowski's praise for Flick
Lewandowski will be sad to see Flick leave Bayern, though, having enjoyed a strong relationship with the 56-year-old throughout his tenure.
"He's not only a great coach, he's also a great person," said the Polish striker. "You can also talk to him about private matters.
"We have achieved historic things with Hansi Flick. That was by far my best time at Bayern, he always gave us a clear plan of what to expect."
What has Nagelsmann said?
Nagelsmann has insisted that he remains fully focused on his duties at Leipzig until he officially becomes Bayern's new boss on July 1, with the DFB Pokal and Bundesliga both still up for grabs.

Bayern Munich declare Nagelsmann interest – but RB Leipzig demand world-record €30m

What are Nagelsmann’s credentials?
Though only 33, Nagelsmann has been a coach in the Bundesliga for five years, having initially taken charge of Hoffenheim. Aged just 28, he was the youngest manager in the Bundesliga’s history and he steered the club from a position in the relegation zone to an eventual Champions League place.
Following on from his success at Hoffenheim, where he ultimately spent almost three full seasons, he moved to RB Leipzig. He led the club into the Champions League and from there guided them to the 2019-20 semi-final, in which they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain.
This term, meanwhile, he has virtually guaranteed a second-place finish for the side, while they have also mounted a title challenge against Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich appoint Nagelsmann as new coach in record-breaking deal worth up to €25m

official website: "Julian Nagelsmann stands for a new generation of trainers.
"Despite his young age, he has had an impressive career. We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann we will build on the great successes of the past few years.
"I would like to expressly thank Hansi Flick on behalf of FC Bayern. He took over our team in a difficult phase in 2019 and then won six titles, the seventh will hopefully follow soon. He will always have a place in the history books of FC Bayern. We wish him all the best for his future."
Future CEO Oliver Kahn added: “Julian's five-year contract alone shows how much he identifies with FC Bayern.

Liverpool transfers: How Jurgen Klopp's men could line up in 2021/22 with Ibrahima Konaté

Liverpool fans must be willing the 2021/22 season towards them.
On the back of yet more dropped points at Anfield, the Reds are wading through one of the worst title defences in Premier League history and have been eliminated from all of their cup competitions.
As a result, there's good reason to think that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards need to ring the changes on Merseyside this summer if they want to regain their crown from Manchester City.
Liverpool looking to next season
Ok, sure, injuries have blighted Liverpool's progress this season, so returning players might feel like new signings to boot, but I think most Kopites would agree that some tweaks are required.

Report: Liverpool closing in on first 2021/22 signing

Apr 11, 2021 - 10:36 am
By Staff Reporter
Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their first signing for the 2021/2022 season.
RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate is said to have attracted a lot interest around Europe much like his defensive partner Dayot Upacameno, who is set to join Bayern Munich.
The Sun claim that German publications claim that the Reds are 'final stages' of finalising a deal for the 21-year-old French defender.
It is being reported that Jurgen Klopp is keen to add another defender to squad after the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche revealed a couple months ago that joining Liverpool was not on the cards.

'Bayern will be champions' - Nagelsmann concedes title after RB Leipzig fall in top-of-the-table clash

"It’s not a goal we should be conceding, but we still played very well," Nagelsmann told
"We pushed Bayern deep into their own half at various stages, but not for the first time this season we didn’t score. We have to learn from that.
"It’d help if we had a proper goal-getter, but we don’t. We were the better side, but have to make more of our chances. Now we have to let it sink in and get on with it.
"If the season goes as expected, Bayern will be champions. We want to finish second."

Bundesliga: Leon Goretzka sends Bayern Munich clear at the top
Bayern Munich opened a near-insurmountable seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with victory in Leipzig, courtesy of a solitary Leon Goretzka goal. Bayern were without Robert Lewandowski, but it didn’t matter.
Goretzka fills the void left by the injured Robert Lewandowksi.
RB Leipzig 0-1 Bayern Munich,
Red Bull Arena
(Goretzka 38')
The absence of Robert Lewandowski should have made Bayern Munich less clinical. The demands of so many competitions should have taken a heavy toll on a slimline squad. This should have been Julian Nagelsmann’s best chance to finally record a meaningful win over Bayern.

Bundesliga: RB Leipzig's biggest chance yet to beat Bayern Munich
With Robert Lewandowski missing and tensions among the Bayern hierarchy, RB Leipzig have a chance to ignite the Bundesliga title race. And with uncertainties of their own, it might be Leipzig's best chance for a while.
A rumor persists in German football that Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has a bet with former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness that RB Leipzig will win the Bundesliga by 2022.
The chief executive of Mateschitz' Leipzig-based franchise, Oliver Mintzlaff, denies the bet exists but, as he told
Sportbild this week, he is well aware that "we've never been in the title race for as long as this."

Germany: Chelsea's Timo Werner produces horror miss vs North Macedonia

Timo Werner hasn't exactly played the best football of his career this season.
Expectations were dizzyingly high when Chelsea signed the German forward on the back of an incredible campaign that saw him compete for the European Golden Shoe with RB Leipzig.
However, sadly, Werner's first season at Stamford Bridge has drawn more comparisons to Fernando Torres and Radamel Falcao than it has Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.
A tough year for Werner
Don't get me wrong, some of the criticism surrounding Werner has been hyperbolic, but there's no getting away from the fact that five goals in 28 games isn't good enough in the Premier League.

'Haaland knew even if he played badly, he'd play again' - How Red Bull became the scouting kings of Europe

From AC Milan to Chelsea, Monaco to Southampton, Red Bull's fingerprints in terms of both scouting and coaching can be found almost anywhere, and the same can be said of Eredivisie outfit Vitesse.
Johannes Spors, once the chief scout at Leipzig, is now the sporting director for the Dutch club, and has brought across a number of his former colleagues to work alongside him in Arnhem.
Rangnick made his name as both the manager and sporting director at Red Bull, and Spors is now aiming to put what he learned under the 62-year-old into action himself.
"Ralf is very clear in his playing style, along with the coaches he developed," Spors tells

Chelsea: Timo Werner video shows electric display vs Atletico Madrid

Chelsea are loving life under Thomas Tuchel right now.
The Blues took the largest scalp of the post-Frank Lampard era on Wednesday night when they expertly navigated their Champions League round of 16 clash with Atletico Madrid.
You really got the feeling that Tuchel was keeping Atletico at arm's length with his intricate tactics, wrapping up a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson Palmieri.
Chelsea 2-0 Atletico (3-0)
Combine that with a 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and there's good reason to think that the west London club are dark horses to win Europe's premier competition.
