Katherine da costa told us how the strikes are going to effect critical care. yes, so in previous strikes, national exemptions were in place which means that nursing cover was maintained in those critical areas, so emergency services, intensive care and cancer services. this time, there were no national agreements. some hospitals had complained or were concerned about patient safety and around one in six trusts that were facing industrial action had to negotiate some local deals with the union. but following discussions with nhs england, the rcn has now agreed to some national exemptions and that will provide limited cover for major emergencies and intensive care. the union stresses that staffing won t be at normal levels and that this strike will still be more intense than previous walk outs. the mitigations have been welcome, but health leaders say the disruption has a knock on effect at tackling backlogs and ultimately they want to see a deal to end this dispute. pope francis has fi ....
