International Data Corporation: “As newer Chinese vendors such as Realme and Xiaomi became aggressive, consumers had more to choose from. With options under $300 (~Rs 24,800), with bigger screens, and increased usage of tablets for on-the-go productivity and entertainment, the consumer segment grew despite challenging market conditions,” said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst, IDC India.
China's leading mobile phone manufacturer, BBK Group, is set to commence production of Oppo, Vivo, and Realme smartphones in collaboration with Indian firms Dixon Technologies and Karbonn Group, as per informed sources. This move is partly driven by government pressure to engage local partners and leverage the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for phone manufacturing
Two industry executives said Vivo and Realme recently began manufacturing a few handsets through a plant owned by Karbonn. Dixon is in the final stages of signing with Oppo and Vivo for contract manufacturing, according to them. As of now, monthly production capacity for Vivo and Realme in the Karbonn plant is around one million units, while the Dixon production will be lower to begin with, they said.
