Group exercise set to return from next week GROUP exercise classes are set to return to leisure centres in Sutton from next week. Boris Johnson has been given the green light for group classes to resume from May 17, which has been called “a huge boost” for people s mental health. Cheam Leisure Centre, David Weir Leisure Centre, The Phoenix Centre and Westcroft Leisure Centre will welcome gym goers back to their classes as part of the next phase on the government s roadmap. Research commissioned by ukactive, showed that 58% of people had managed their mental health and wellbeing during lockdown through being active.

On Monday, the Government confirmed that leisure centres would be safe to reopen with strict operational measures in place. Leisure operator Everyone Active has announced that Cheam Leisure Centre, David Weir Leisure Centre, The Phoenix Centre, and Westcroft Leisure Centre will reopen on April 12 following a three-month closure due to Covid-19. While its 200 leisure centres across the country have been closed, Everyone Active has provided a comprehensive package of online workouts for people to use, along with live streamed classes across its social media pages.
