New $9.7m Reef Resilience vessel to be based in Gladstone

A state-of the art $9.7 million vessel based at Gladstone will bring new capabilities in compliance, surveying and research on the southern Great Barrier Reef.
The 24-metre Reef Resilience vessel was unveiled on Friday by Federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley, Queensland Environment and Great Barrier Reef Minister Meaghan Scanlon and Manufacturing, Regional Development and Water Minister, Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher.
Ms Ley said the Reef Resilience vessel was jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland governments under the Reef Joint Field Management Program.

Mon Repos set to improve gender balance among hatchlings

KNOWN as the main destination for nesting turtles on the eastern coast of Australia, Mon Repos will be receive a funding boost for an innovative trial.
Federal Minister for Environment Sussan Ley brought the much-needed rain to Bundy, as well as two major funding announcements for the region.
Alongside the Australian Government’s $6.1 million investment to improve water quality of the Great Barrier Reef and Burnett river, an additional $300,000 will also be provided to Mon Repos, to cool turtle nests at the local site.
“The $300,000 funding for Mon Repos is to do with cooling the sand to get the right gender balance of the hatchlings,” Ms Ley said. ....
