Automobile manufacturers are constantly vying for a piece of that sweet, sweet subscription revenue. It's now Toyota's turn.Almost every automobile manufacturer has a subscription service, and Toyota has one called Remote Connect. The service includes the normal features, such as allowing owners to remotely lock their doors or prepare their interior if they have a plug-in vehicle. However, as some complimentary Remote Connect memberships expire, Toyota owners may be surprised to learn that they can no longer use their key fob to remotely start their vehicles.

Toyotas that are 2018 or newer will require a subscription if drivers want to remotely start their car with their key fob. If the car comes with Audio Plus, drivers will get a free trial of the feature for three years, while cars that come with Premium Audio will get a 10-year free trial.
Toyota drivers will have to pay $80/yr once their free trial expires in order to get the remote connect service to operate with their key fob. Learn more.
