Most looking forward to face-to-face learning


PETALING JAYA: After a bumpy year of online classrooms and missing their classmates, most students are excited to finally resume in-person learning.
Form Five student Fatema Yasser is eager to return to preparing for her SPM examinations as well as being with her friends on her final year of school and capping off her eventual graduation with prom.
The 17-year-old science student said the past year of mostly online learning had been overwhelming, adding that she had received more homework.
She still prefers in-person learning although she and her three other siblings enjoy good Internet connection and reliable gadgets at home. ....

Schools ready to go full swing


PETALING JAYA: All five million students are in school today, the first time that everyone is back since the country had to grapple with the third wave of Covid-19 cases.
While schools started welcoming back students as early as March 1 this year, only preschoolers and pupils in primary Years One and Two, followed by those in Year Three to Six a week later, were allowed into their classrooms then under a staggered return.
All secondary school students have resumed schooling today after five months, starting with those in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu yesterday.
The reason that secondary school students were the last to physically return to school was to make way for the SPM and STPM 2020 examinations, which were postponed to early this year. ....

Back-to-school joy at last for many students


JOHOR BARU: Fifth former Muhd Azin Zulkeflee was one happy teenager as he entered his school for the first time in more than a year following the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order.
The SMK Sultan Ismail (SSI) student said he was glad that the government allowed students to go back to the classroom despite the threat of Covid-19.
“This year is important for me as I will be preparing for my SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examinations. The main difference between learning through our laptops in the comfort of our own homes and in our classrooms is the direct communication that we can have with our teachers, ” said Muhd Azin, 17, who is among the 998 SSI students who returned to school yesterday. ....
