Policing, its never been an Institution Designed to keep us safe and used as a tool for those in power to keep the marginalized people from rising up, going all the way back to the slave patrol. Sharing im the policing unfairly targets marginalized communities, injects massive amounts of people into the prison system. We heard about reform from chief scott today, but all those measures ignore the fact that reform is not effective. We need to defund and sfpd and invest in our communities immediately. I yield my time. Thank you for your comments. It cannot force you to create money in a budget. Cut the budget and cut the numbers of police and Fund Services that help humans. End the violence against black and brown people that is built into policing. I disagree with supervisors assessment of what his constituents want. We want services, not Police Officers. I have heard on this call that over time sfpd at the airport, the focus of sfpd and the mandated reforms are not well understood by s
But just in the context of this hearing, id like to point out that the board has been so far, from what ive heard, asking a lot of questions about identifying sort of superfluous elements of the Police Budget such that can be cut, particularly in the light of this budget deficit. And these are only symptoms of a much broader problem, and lets not forget that the Biggest Issue with the police is that this is an institution that directly targets black and brown people and that the time has concluded. Thank you for your comments. Next speaker, please. Hello. My name is ryan. I live in district 4. I urge for divestment of the sfpd. [indiscernible] and how education and Community Empowerment are how societies grow whereas reaction during punitive and literally oppresses people and holds bias for those struggling in so many areas in the city that needs massive homelessness, education, come full front. The recording secretary of the government committee, of which i am the chair, and i dont think you can find, as previous people have said, a harder worker, someone who is more tenacious, disciplined, tireless, a selfstarter. She is a great researcher and writer. And so i come cap in hand to ask you to reappoint her and one of the great things here, too, is that she is experienced, this is a reappointment and so you dont have to have somebody come in and learn on the job. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon, supervisors, catherine howard, landscape architect. I do have some experience with tree issues in San Francisco, having worked with friends of the music concourse to protect the historic hundredyearold trees in front of the band shell when the garage project threatened them. Ive known miss hillson and her work for many years. I am on the open space coalition. In our monthly meetings we sit through a lot of meetings, many of them extremely complex. Ro
With the work of your department, we are putting in hundreds of trees but what are your thoughts how we can move forward on preserving our trees, expanding our trees in the face of what our current policy is . One of the things ironically i spent the last two days, six hours worth of focus groups that we at friends of the urban forested and paid for. One of the things the public is interested in and are they concerned about the tree canopy and trees and expanding the canopy and we also spoke a great deal about the urban forest plan. What we discovered in the process we had home owners with trees, home owners without trees and renters. We were surprised at how the renters really werent that interested in trees. But they are very interested in the damage that trees do to sidewalks. And so one of the recommendations from the urban forest plan is that we have a dedicated Funding Source for the care and maintenance of street trees that also means the city would take back the liability for d
