PM Citu: No taxes in 2020 from hospitality industry, their action in court hard to understand

Prime Minister Florin Citu on Thursday said that he "does not understand very much" of the action in court initiated by the Hotels and Restaurants Employers' Organization in Romania (HORA) challenging the government decisions imposing restrictions on the hospitality industry, noting that the whole sector benefited last year from a whole series of eases, including the elimination of the specific tax, according to AGERPRES.
"I remember that the whole sector didn't pay taxes all of the last year. The specific tax has been eliminated and this year is also eliminated by March. There are many measures that have benefited - FNGCIMM (National Credit Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprises), furlough, after that, the payment of 41.5 pct of the salary for those who have returned from furlough. So, a lot of effort last year, 4.85 pct of the budget deficit went to measures to support the economy. Of course, if anyone wants to sue the Government, very well, but I believe that these measures are not the most appropriate, given the situation Romania is going through and the efforts this Government is making," Citu said, after participating in the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB)'s Performers of the Year 2020 event.

HORA's Daniel Mischie asks Bucharest's prefect for restaurants to operate until possible full lockdown

The President of the Hotels and Restaurants Employers' Organization in Romania (HORA), Daniel Mischie, asked Bucharest's Prefect Traian Berbeceanu for the restaurants to operate until a complete lockdown.
"There is no justification for which restaurants should be closed. To do this, we have requested that the restaurants be detached from the coefficient of 3 per thousand and to operate at 30% capacity inside and with known restrictions on the terrace until a full lockdown, if case may be. The second thing we requested from the prefect was to send the Government that the industry needs unblocking the payments for the 20% measure. I brought to mind that today, at the Bucharest Municipal Court, HORA has filed an action challenging the decisions of the Municipal Committee for Emergency Situations, respectively at the Bucharest Court of Appeals. HORA against has an action challenging the Government's decisions imposing restrictions on HoReCa industry, Daniel Mischie said after Wednesday's meeting between representatives of HoReCa with Bucharest's prefect.

Employers' organizations in the HoReCa sector will not force their employees to take the vaccine, but they will explain to them why vaccination will help us return to a normal life sooner, the head of the Romanian Hotels and Restaurants Employers' Organization (HORA), Daniel Mischie, told a press conference.
The leader of HORA estimated that the general population will want to vaccinate more as soon as the third stage of the vaccination process starts.
In his turn, the head of the National Council of Small and Medium Sized Private Enterprises in Romania (CNIPMMR), Florin Jianu, said businessmen do not intend to adopt coercive measures against employees who refuse vaccination.
