To initiate the process that s going to take the plane to the ground. another detail that we just heard from karl penhaul. i want to ask you if you know about this, david, with uz that the pilot was trying to communicate with the co-pilot in the cockpit. once he was locked outside, he said, through a video intercom. is there video where they can see each other? i thought previously because of the year of the aircraft it didn t have it. but it s been retro fitted with it if that s what the case is there. when you re outside, you can see inside the cockpit. probably just attracting his attention. that takes off the table for me the guy didn t know how to get in the cockpit. if he didn t know and the co-pilot was doing his normal job, he would ve looked at the video and said oh let me let you in. you can see outside the cockpit. another interesting point is what they learned and this for the people just joining us now, the co-pilot was alive until impact heard breathing, w ....

are these things we will ultimately learn once we get the flight data recorder? this was a retro fitted aircraft. it was put in after 2003 or 2004 probably. that s going to be a problem. the newer aircraft, it would be on the data recorder. we won t have that benefit. we re looking for reasons why this happened. typically you get the flight data record their tells how things went but it doesn t tell you why. we get the voice recorder to tell you why. now we have the flight data and still asking why. it s terribly frustrating for families and also the investigators trying to put this together for the families. david soucie thank you, les thank you as well. to the point actbout the families and question why. grieving families are making ....

is this a worldwide retro fit or just american planes? it was an option. an airbus came out and it fits this capability. it will cost you for a single body yet around $25,000, for a wide body yet around $30,000. there was no mandate requirement by the faa or the caa to put this across all of the operators. the second aspect, lawrence, i find this slightly unsettling. the first, there s no radio transmission. the second is that the aircraft wasn t navigated off its initial path. if you rewind back, air france 447, the crash into the atlantic. no radio call. airasia call, no radio call. germanwings, no radio call. ....
