Corpus et Sanguis Christi - Vimarsana News

Corpus et Sanguis Christi

Jun 2, 2021 | liturgy | The tradition of giving thanks for the institution of the Eucharist (in the story of Jesus’ life on a Thursday) has long been celebrated on the first “free” Thursday outside of Lent/Easter. People connect it with Juliana of Liège. Thomas Aquinas, at the request of Pope Urban IV in the year 1264, produced the Mass and the Offices for the feast. And he wrote the hymns  Lauda Sion and  Pange Lingua in its honour. It is omitted in the 1549, 1552, 1559, and 1662 Books of Common Prayer, returning in 1928 – but without a date in the Calendar. This approach cont...

Column: If we say we have no sin ... 'We can not make all people happy or content with our beliefs, but we can look at ways we personally have missed the mark.' Written By: Jeanette McCormick, First Lutheran Church | 9:15 am, Apr. 14, 2021 × McCormick "If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and t...

Transfiguration Sunday - Vimarsana News

Transfiguration Sunday

This 1992 RCL is an agreed and binding formulary of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. But, I can see no sign of this Transfiguration Sunday option – Anglican Church of Or though it is – in either the lectionary booklet or the new A New Zealand Prayer Book He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa 2020. Transfiguration Sunday was in the NZ Lectionary booklet as an option until 2017. The last four years it has been omitted as an option in the NZ Lectionary booklet without explanation. That it is not in the booklet, ultimately, is neither here nor there – the lectionary bo...

New Prayer Book Defies General Synod - Vimarsana News

New Prayer Book Defies General Synod

Feb 4, 2021 | liturgy | A New Zealand Prayer Book He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa 2020 page 626 Most astonishingly, the publication of A New Zealand Prayer Book He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa 2020 flagrantly defies a decision by General Synod Te Hinota Whanui about the prayer book that should lay out the common prayer of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. This is the fourth post in a series on this A New Zealand Prayer Book He Karakia Mihinare o Aotearoa 2020. The previous posts described: 2) how this book bears the same title as the 1989 book but has quite a diffe...

Pancake Candlemas Tuesday - Vimarsana News

Pancake Candlemas Tuesday

Thanks to (regular part of this community) Rev. Barbara Dineen for telling me about the French tradition of crêpes on Candlemas [if I knew about this once, I have forgotten]. The Lenten (Spring) tradition of not eating eggs makes natural sense – so that there are chicks to hatch in (Northern Hemisphere) Spring. Using up all the eggs before Lent (by eating them in pancakes) is, of course, completely bizarre church/liturgy logic! Now, why this tradition of pancakes/crêpes for Candlemas? My suspicion is that this originates with an extended Lent. [There is a tradition of ceasing to use “Al...
