Bolivar's new superintendent is longtime school leader in Cassville

The Bolivar school board announced this week that Richard Asbill, the longtime leader in Cassville, will be the district's new superintendent.
Asbill, 48, will start July 1. He will replace Superintendent Tony Berry, who will retire this summer.
He emerged as the choice from among 24 applicants to lead the nearly 2,900-student district in Polk County.

“Dr. Asbill comes to the Bolivar community with high expectations, a wealth of experience, and a shared vision for our students,” said board president Paula Hubbert, in a news release. “We are so pleased that an educator of his stature wants to join us in continuing to strengthen the pillars of educational excellence implemented under Dr. Berry’s leadership.”

Weaver, Barton leaving district at end of June
Two Cassville school buildings will be under new leadership next school year, as Eunice Thomas Elementary Principal Catherine Weaver and Cassville Middle School Principal Jimmie Barton are both retiring.
Richard Asbill, Cassville superintendent, said Weaver has served 27 years at the district, 22 as elementary principal, and Barton has been principal at the middle school for 7 years.
“Catherine announced her retirement on Jan. 1, and we posted for the job internally and on the state job posting list,” he said. “We had several internal and external applicants and started the interview process, then moved to top candidates and worked on developing a recommendation to the board, which we made on Thursday.”

Bolivar Names New Superintendent


The Bolivar School district has a new superintendent.
Dr. Richard Asbill spent the last eleven years as the superintendent in Cassville.
He takes over for Dr. Tony Berry, who is retiring.

The Bolivar R-1 Board of Education Tuesday announced that Richard Asbill, Ed. D. has been selected to serve as the school district’s next superintendent. He will fill that role starting July 1, 2021, following the retirement of current superintendent Tony Berry, Ed. D.

Asbill to take top job at Bolivar school district
The Cassville Board of Education will soon be looking for a new superintendent, as Richard Asbill has resigned.
Asbill submitted his letter on Monday, and the Board met in a special meeting the same night and accepted the resignation, effective at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Asbill said he has accepted the superintendent position at the Bolivar school district. He will remain at Cassville through June 30.
“I see some similarities there between Barry and Polk counties,” he said. “Cassville ands Bolivar are both county seats, and they are both in the lake area. Bolivar has some things they believe I can assist with, and when I met with their Board of Education, we felt our goals would be mutually beneficial and I would be a good asset for them. It was a good opportunity to visit Bolivar and look at how our leadership goals align.”

Cassville continues with renovations
Nearly two years ago, voters passed a $4 million no-tax-increase bond issue for the Cassville school district to move forward on the Vision 150 plans.
From playgrounds to a renovated Vintage Wing, the last year and nine months have been full of projects and progress as the Cassville district, literally, hammers out the final items on their lists.

Cassville families speak to school board asking to reconsider plan
Three patrons of the Cassville school district spoke Thursday at the school board’s monthly meeting, asking board members to reconsider the district’s month-old masking mandate for students.
Amanda Tucker, parent of two girls at the district was the first to speak. She said Middle School Principal Jimmie Barton said it was none of the parents’ concern on the masking issue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., because the school is in charge of the kids. Tucker said one of her daughters was sent home for not wearing a mask, then she returned the following day with a doctor’s not saying the child could not mask but could wear a face shield, which is provided by the school.
