The Union staff The majority of Nevada County offices will close Dec. 24 and remain closed through Jan. 1 in observance of the December holidays and previously announced furlough days, according to a news release. The furlough days are non-compensated and were negotiated with county labor unions as a way to save money during a time of significant revenue decline, said Nevada County CEO Rick Haffey. “The county worked hard to keep the number of days to a minimum,” Haffey said. Each of the furlough days saves approximately $135,000, for an overall savings of $675,000 for the year. Closures will not impact access to public-safety and other 24-hour operations, the release states. ....
