MASSIVE flooding caused chaotic scenes across Dorset yesterday, with heavy rainfall resulting in the “wettest 24 hour” summer period in 10 years. Following overnight and morning rainfall, floods across the county caused road closures, abandoned cars and widespread traffic jams. Dorset Fire Service said it received 20 emergency calls in just two-and-a-half hours on Monday morning, with most calls about the flooding. River Bourne Community Farm in Laverstock will be reopening on Monday for pre-booked visits only. A spokesperson said: “We are all very happy to be able to welcome visitors back to the farm from Monday 12th April. It’s been very quiet here and the animals have missed all the attention. “Can we remind everyone that visits to the farmyard must be pre-booked via our website. The rule of six applies to visits and social distancing must still be observed. A PROJECT to restore the natural beauty of water meadows in Laverstock has been given a £10,000 funding boost. The funds from The Hills Group Limited will be used by the Devenish Bradshaw Charitable Trust to improve a muddy stretch of walkway on to the meadows, provide wildflower seeding, gates and fencing to improve community access and benches to sit and enjoy what the meadows have to offer.
