England's most spectacular spring gardens for a post-lockdown reunion

'Spring – and hope – is in the air' Credit: Hever Castle Spring – and hope – is in the air. Bluebells, daffodils and tulips are pushing up through the soil, and dormant trees are budding and bursting into life. And perhaps (whisper it) we may be able to enjoy the new beginning with friends and family this spring: outdoors and at a distance, perhaps, but closer than we’ve been in months. If you are planning a spring reunion, look to these glorious parks and gardens in the grounds of Britain’s loveliest palaces, estates and castles. Crucially, the essentials are covered too: each...

Human cost of EU's spite: Trade war looms after Brussels' 'indefensible' block on seafood

I’m down to a few web sales, perhaps 300 oysters. To be honest, I’m struggling.’ His plight is shared by the handful of traditional oyster and scallop boat crews working Cornwall’s River Fal. Rivers at risk of flooding in Cornwall include Helston Cober: EA - Vimarsana News

Rivers at risk of flooding in Cornwall include Helston Cober: EA

It follows heavy rain overnight and through this morning, which continued into this afternoon and evening.  Rivers across West Cornwall, the Helford River and the River Fal are all on the list for amber warnings, as well as those in St Austell, Par and throughout North Cornwall. In each case the EA has warned: "Flooding is possible - be prepared." This is lower than a red alert that 'Flooding is expected - immediate action required', however. Two of these have now been added to rivers in east Cornwall: the River Fowey at Lostwithiel and the River Fowey from Trekeivesteps to Restorm...
