Amherst County High School junior Amya Hankton said she felt relieved after she received her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Friday afternoon at the school. “It feels like this is finally coming to an end,” she said. “It’s a relief.” Hankton, 17, said she has been participating in the Amherst Remote Academy this year, primarily as a precaution because of COVID-19. New housing development coming to Xenia XENIA — More than 150 new homes will be coming to the southwest part of Xenia. City Council last week unanimously approved the rezoning of about 53 acres of farmland near the intersection of Van Eaton and Lower Bellbrook roads, allowing a new subdivision to be built. Developer Rob Arnold, founder of Astelier Fine Homes, plans to build 146 single-family homes on 44.7 acres and eight duplex homes on 8.7 acres, according to city documents. A return to in-person learning five days per week is in the works for Amherst County Public Schools in the upcoming 2021-22 school year. Superintendent Rob Arnold said he is recommending to the Amherst County School Board that all students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade are provided with in-person instruction all day throughout the week. AMHERST — Amherst County Public Schools is set to receive a funding influx of just more than $344,000 in the 2021-22 fiscal year based on the most recent state budget, according to figures presented to the county’s school board Thursday. A week prior to the meeting, Superintendent Rob Arnold unveiled a $53.8 million budget proposal with a recommended 3% pay raise for division staff.
