Melrose winter athletes begin season with success on the court, in the rink Dom Nicastro Let the games begin. Or, better said, the games have begun. And that’s great news for the Melrose High School winter sports coaches and athletes. Games are underway. Tryouts for the Red Raiders began on Dec. 14, and games started on Jan. 2, with the boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball teams picking up wins over Stoneham, the Stoneham-Melrose girls’ hockey team beating Winchester and the boys’ hockey team racing back to a 4-4 tie with Stoneham. Gymnastics is also looking forward to its season....
