Des Moines, IA (AP) — A federal judge has extended an order that will prevent state officials from enforcing a law that prohibits school districts from implementing mask requirements until the federal lawsuit challenging the law can be heard. Judge Robert Pratt had earlier issued a temporary restraining order preventing Gov. Kim Reynolds and Department of Education Director Ann Lebo from enforcing the law Reynolds signed in May. DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A federal judge Friday extended an order that will prevent state officials from enforcing a law that prohibits school districts from implementing mask requirements until a federal lawsuit challenging the law can be heard.

Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague announced in a news release Wednesday that he has “indefinitely extended” the mask order he established Aug. 19 “due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

The COVID-19 risk among children has increased amid the delta variant and the start of the school year, a pediatricians group said.
