A £1.5 million fine handed down to Metro operator Nexus after a worker was killed will not result in cuts to train services, bosses have confirmed. Dad-of-three John Bell, from Killingworth, was electrocuted while carrying out maintenance work on overhead lines near Gosforth in July 2014, after grabbing a live wire that he believed was isolated from the power supply. Nexus pleaded guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act for failing to ensure the safety of its staff and, at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, was issued a £1.5 million fine.
