Crews from across Auckland responded to the fire at a Countdown in West Auckland. The fire started shortly before 8.30pm on May 6 at Countdown at WestCity Waitākere shopping centre. Auckland Countdown unlikely to reopen this week after snack aisle fire

WestCity Waitākere shopping centre was evacuated after a fire broke out at the Countdown supermarket inside. Countdown originally said the store would be closed for up to seven days – but now say it is unlikely to reopen at all this week. Police treating fire at West Auckland Countdown as arson

Police are treating a fire in a West Auckland Countdown as an arson. Detectives from the Waitematā Criminal Investigation Branch are on the scene and have launched an investigation, Senior Sergeant Ian Brenchley said. He would confirm no further details as to how the fire started, beyond that police believe it was an arson.
