Iran’s Supreme Leader addresses Air Force commanders and staff in Tehran, February 7, 2021
Iran’s Supreme Leader and US President Joe Biden trade “You Go First” declarations over an American return to the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting of Washington’s sanctions on Tehran.
Ayatollah Khamenei told Air Force commanders and staff on Sunday, “If [the US] want Iran to return to its JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] commitments, the US should remove all sanctions in action. After they have done this, we will check if the sanctions have truly been removed. Once this is done, we will resume our JCPOA commitments.

Top Biden Advisor Sullivan: "Escalating Nuclear Crisis" with Iran

UPDATE, JAN. 31:
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has denounced the statements of Biden Administration officials calling on Iran to return to compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, before the US rejoins the accord.
Repeating the “You Go First” line from both side, Qalibaf said, “Instead of setting preconditions for carrying out its commitments, the administration of Mr. Biden must determine how it is going to fulfill the commitment to the removal of sanctions.”
He claimed, “It is like we have paid the seller for a commodity, but have not received anything. Who would make such a bargain?”.

Indonesia’s coast guard has seized the Iran-flagged tanker MT Horse over a suspected illegal oil transfer.
The Panamanian-flagged MT Freya was also held on Sunday. Coast Guard spokesman Wisnu Pramandita said the two tankers, with a total of 61 crew, are being escorted to Batam island in Riau Island Province for further investigation.
He said the vessels were “caught red-handed” during the transfer were there was a spill around the MT Freya as it took on oil.

Oil Minister Claims Recovery in Iran's Exports Despite US Sanctions - But Gives No Evidence

Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh claims that Iran’s exports have risen “significantly” despite US sanctions.
“We set the highest record of exports of refined products in the history of the oil industry during the embargo period,” Zanganeh proclaimed on Friday
The minister did not give figures nor any details about the foreign countries purportedly reviving their purchases. Instead, he said, “The enemy and Trump wanted us to perish and die, our exports to reach zero, but we are alive and working with more hope to build the country.”
Since the Trump Administration imposed comprehensive sanctions in November 2018, Iran has not released official figures on oil exports.

After the Supreme Leader’s ban on Coronavirus vaccines from the US, UK, and France, President Hassan Rouhani has scrambled to reassure Iranians that the inoculations will proceed.
Rouhani said after Tuesday’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and judiciary head Ebrahim Raisi:
Whether the vaccine is made domestically or the vaccine is purchased from reliable companies that are 100% trusted, the Government will definitely take the necessary measures in this regard.
The President mentioned that the Government has paid for the vaccine from COVAX, the World Health Organization’s vehicle for delivery, claiming “millions of doses of the vaccine have been purchased and provided”.

Rouhani Government Authorizes Return to 20% Uranium Enrichment

Rouhani Government Authorizes Return to 20% Uranium Enrichment
Posted by Scott Lucas | Dec 29, 2020 |
In its most significant suspension of commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran’s Rouhani Government has authorized a return to the enrichment of 20% uranium.
Before the agreement in July 2015 with the 5+1 Powers (US, UK, Germany, China, Russia, and France), Iran had produced the 20% uranium, which can potentially be further enriched to a military grade of more than 90%.
Responding to the Trump Administration’s withdrawal from the agreement and its comprehensive sanctions, the Government had broken the deal’s limit on stocks of 3.67% uranium, raised enrichment to 4.5%, and installed advanced uranium centrifuges. But it had refrained from the crossing of the 20% line.

Iran and the remaining 5+1 Powers (UK, France, China, Russia, and Germany) have renewed their commitment to the 2015 nuclear deal — while avoiding the question of revision.
Foreign Ministers held a two-hour virtual meeting, chaired by European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, on Monday.
A joint statement said ministers “discussed that full and effective implementation of the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] by all remains crucial and discussed the need to address ongoing implementation challenges, including on nuclear non-proliferation and sanctions lifting commitments”.

Rouhani Bases Government Budget on Huge Surge in Iran's Oil Sales

Iran President Hassan Rouhani addresses a Cabinet meeting, Tehran, December 9, 2020
President Hassan Rouhani is based the Government’s 2021-2022 budget on a huge surge in Iran’s oil exports.
Rouhani said at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that the budget, presented to Parliament, is based on sales of 2.3 million barrels per day from March 2021.
“In the next year, we will have the capability to produce and sell 2.3 million bpd of oil and we will sell it,” he declared.
Iran’s exports were about 2.5 million bpd in April 2018, but they fell between 80% and 95% amid comprehensive US sanctions imposed in November.
In 2011, Iran’s revenue from crude oil sales was more than $110 billion. It was sharply reduced by UN and US sanctions before the 2015 nuclear deal, before recovering to $62 billion in 2018.
