Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Addressing the people from atop his bus in Senapati, Gandhi said the Congress did a yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and the idea was to bring people of India together.
Addressing a gathering in Senapati Gandhi said: "We have decided that the most powerful thing would be to start the yatra from Manipur so that the people of India could get a sense of what the people of Manipur have been through; the difficulties and struggles they have been through. I understand you faced a tragedy, you have lost family members and property. I want you to know that we stand by you." Gandhi also held discussions with some civil society members.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has begun the "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra" in Manipur, pledging to bring peace and harmony to the violence-hit state. Addressing a public meeting, Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur amid the ethnic violence. The yatra will cover 6,713 km, spanning 100 Lok Sabha constituencies and 337 assembly segments, concluding in Mumbai on March 20.
Advani, who had launched the epochal Ram Rath Yatra in 1990, said, "On the one hand there was a groundswell of popular support for the movement. On the other hand most political parties were shying away from supporting it as they feared losing Muslim votes. They succumbed to the lure of this vote-bank politics and justified it in the name of secularism."
