The Virginia Beach City Council took steps toward turning the undeveloped Rudee Loop at the southern end of the Oceanfront into a public park.
The city is getting the ball rolling on bringing a new park to Rudee Loop at the Oceanfront .
It marks the first step the city has taken to convert the land into a designated public recreation area. The city will now procure a professional design firm to develop specifications which will help determine construction costs. The process could take a year.
Developers told the city that a 300-room hotel next door to the convention center would help bring visitors in.
Several council members expressed support for Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation bringing in a national park design firm to help develop the Oceanfront area.
