The Rwandan army has intervened in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in recent months, both directly and in support of armed groups, according to a report by United Nations experts consulted by AFP on Thursday.
Rwandan troops have attacked soldiers in DR Congo and aided the M23 rebel group, according to a report by independent UN experts provided to AFP on Thursday.
The M23 armed group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo summarily killed at least 29 civilians since mid-June 2022 in areas under their control.
The deterioration of security and resurgence of M23 in eastern DRC are an outcome of longstanding rivalries between Rwanda and Uganda.
East Africa can ill afford any new tensions.
