Mayo schools take part in My Green & Red Thumb Day Published: Thursday, 29 April 2021 07:47 Ahead of Mayo Day this Saturday, schools across the county will take part in the My Green and Red Thumb day tomorrow. This is a road safety campaign, designed to raise awareness of the risks of distraction from using a mobile phone while on roads and streets. Traditionally, people have put a string on their finger to remind themselves of something - and this original idea for this campaign came from a driver who painted his thumb nail red to remind him not to use his phone while driving - every time he saw his red nail, he was reminded of the message. ....
