Taguig credits health workers for city's high vaccination rate

(File photo) MANILA - The Taguig City government on Wednesday attributed the success of its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic response efforts to the hard work and dedication of its medical front-liners. "It has always been our health workers who put their health at risk and try their very best to save lives. We thank them for their hard work and sacrifices," Mayor Lino Cayetano said in a statement. The city was among local government units (LGUs) recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for having a high Covid-19 vaccination rate during the "Bayanihan, Bakunahan 4" massive vaccination drive held from March 10 to 18. Taguig City Health Office chief Dr. Norena Osano received the award given by the DILG together with other national government agencies comprising the National Task Force against Covid-19 in a ceremony at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Tuesday. Recognized in the event were top-performing LGUs for advancing the whole-of-government approach to ensure the balance between public health and economy, particularly on the implementation of the Safety Seal Certification Program, VaxCert PH, and the National Vaccination Program. As of March 21, a total of 832,839 individuals have already been fully vaccinated in the city, translating to 94 percent of the Department of Health's projected population of the city for 2022. (Screengrab) MANILA - The National Task Force (NTF) against the coronavirus disease 2019 and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday recognized top-performing local government units (LGUs) in Covid-19 response, in an in-person awarding ceremony in Pasay City. Notable LGUs were hailed for advancing the whole-of-government approach to ensure the balance between public health and economy, particularly on the imposition of the Safety Seal Certification Program, VaxCert PH, and the National Vaccination Program. Among these efforts, DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano noted that the issuance of safety seals to establishments that are compliant with public health protocols is significant, considering the country has maintained to be in a low Covid-19 classification level while preparing for the transition to the new normal. "Truly its implementation in May 2021 was a game-changer in the attempt to live with the virus in our midst., and since then we have accomplished a major leap of victory," he said. Ano mentioned that some 75,310 safety seals were issued to businesses and other establishments nationwide, with the National Capital Region (NCR) having the highest number of issuances. Top performing cities for the safety seal issuance include Quezon City in Metro Manila; Dasmarinas, Cavite; San Carlos, Pangasinan; Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya; and Santiago, Ilocos Sur. Moreover, Secretary Vince Dizon, Presidential Adviser for Covid-19 response, expressed his gratitude to all participating LGUs, private stakeholders, and even the public for their active engagement in the country's vaccination drive. He said more than 140 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have so far been administered nationwide, with over 65 million people fully vaccinated and almost 12 million who got booster shots. "If we did not come together as one, we would not be here today, our people will not be able to go to the mall, establishments won't be able to get back their sales, people would not be working again if not for everybody here, and the countless others who have reached in their little way," Dizon said. The inoculation numbers were highest in Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Cavite. Meanwhile, Marikina City; Antipolo City, Rizal; San Simon, Pampanga; Iloilo City; Roxas City, Capiz; Caluya, Antique; Davao City; and Malaybalay City and Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon excelled in the utilization of VaxCertPH. Bacolod business establishments renew safety seal certificates

(Image courtesy of safetyseal.dilg.gov.ph) BACOLOD CITY - Business establishments including two shopping malls here have renewed their safety seal certificates to manifest their continued compliance with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) minimum public health standards. These include SM City Bacolod and Ayala Malls Capitol Central, based on the list of the city's Safety Seal Committee chair Stela Rose Rayos released on Friday. Issued for free to compliant business and public establishments, the certificate can be renewed every six months. "Establishments awarded with the certificate are allowed an additional 10 percent onsite capacity beyond the prescribed capacity percentage," Rayos said, citing Resolution 127-A of the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). On Friday, nine more establishments received their safety seal certificates from the city government, among these were schools, banks, restaurants, and private firms. Rayos said the inspection and certification team conducts online verification, calibration, and on-site validation of the applicant establishments. Only business establishments with valid mayor's permits are eligible to apply for a certificate of safety seal, which is to be displayed conspicuously at all entrances of establishments. Thomas Joseph Martir, police city director, welcomed the safety seal certification that indicated the local Philippine National Police's adherence to the Covid-19 health and safety protocols. "As front-liners in the fight against the deadly disease, it has always been the aim of the BCPO to help put an end to this pandemic," the BCPO chief said in a statement. Martir received the safety seal certificate from May Theresa Malongayon, local government operations officer VI and on-site team leader, in the presence of other inspection team members from the DILG and the Bureau of Fire Protection. "This could also pave the way for more programs and activities to strengthen the crime prevention measures and projects geared toward the strong relationship of the police and the community," he added.
