Kabul, Feb 2 : Targeted killings across Afghanistan in the month of January claimed the lives of more than 50 people, triggering concerns among civilians of the war-torn country, according to official figures published on Tuesday.
According to the figures by Xinhua news agency, five people comprising two security forces members and three civilians were killed in three attacks in Kabul, while a praying leader and teacher of a local seminary was shot dead in Kandahar province over the weekend.

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) A deputy provincial councilor in northern Afghan province of Kunduz has succumbed to critical injuries from a bomb attack, chairman of the council confirmed Wednesday.
Safiullah Amiri, deputy provincial councilor of Kunduz, was deeply wounded following a bomb attack in provincial capital Kunduz city at midday on Tuesday. Amiri lost his life at a hospital in Kunduz late on Tuesday, Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi told Xinhua.
The explosion, which also killed a provincial official s son and wounded two others, was the latest in a string of targeted attacks in recent months.
Findings on Journalist Killings Still Not Public
The Afghan government’s investigation into the systematic murders of the Afghan journalists and civil society activists has created some confusion among the people.
A month ago, officials from Afghanistan’s intelligence agency the National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced that the NDS forces had arrested a number of suspects allegedly involved in the killing of Afghan journalists, including the assassination of former TOLOnews’ present Yama Siawash, however, the Afghan security agencies have not disclosed the identity of the attackers and the perpetrators who planned the attacks.
Meanwhile, journalists and civil society activists in Kunduz have said that a rise in threats against the media community has impacted the quality of reporting across the country.
