Salem Police plus several other agencies responded to Salem Community High School on Wednesday following a call into police of an active shooter at the school. Salem Community High School is not the only school that received a call in the area. Around 9:45 AM, Centralia Police reported a similar situation. All units in Centralia plus units from Wamac, Illinois State Police, and the Illinois Secretary of State Police showed up on scene. Around 9:48 AM, Mount Vernon Police, according to the departments Facebook Page say that they received a phone call reporting an active shooter at the Mt Vernon Township High School. The caller additionally reported multiple injuries. All available law enforcement units, numbering over 20 officers, from the Mt Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and Illinois State Police responded to scene.
