A program in Howard County is putting kids to the test.Grit Adventures is a weekslong adventure-racing program that teaches kids physical and mental skills that are meant to help them through the pandemic and all of life s challenges. It is a classroom for kids that takes grit, with help from adult coaches and teamwork. The GRIT it s Generating Resilience, Independence and Tenacity teaching them the skills to cope with things that are happening in life, said Jesse Tubb, who created the program last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is absolutely a direct response to the COVID. Grit Adventures gives kids a chance to use their pent-up energy, letting it loose outdoors. The six-week course trains kids on bikes, in water and all things adventure racing. We did a bunch of practice adventure races and those were a lot of fun, said participant Samantha Frank. You just have to have the right mindset and know how to do it, said participant Bela Morgan.The final test is ....
MADISON, Wis. An audit of the state unemployment insurance office shows the Department of Workforce Development sometimes waited weeks before acting on claims. In a new report the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau found it took an average of 13 weeks to resolve claims, and the office was responsible for 11 of those 13 weeks. In one instance auditors found someone waited 92 days for a payment on their claim. It took 84 days for DWD to request the information. While the department brought in more adjudicators, from 175 in March to 563 by September, the audit found they worked just over three hours of overtime per week on average. ....
