Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ signature education bill is on its way to her desk, after passing in the Iowa House and Senate, but not before hours of rigorous debate.
A plan approved by Iowa Legislatures will allow students to use public money to pay tuition for private schools. Democrats argued this may lead to reduced funding for public schools.
Most Republicans voted along party lines to pass this bill.
Any Iowa student who wants to attend a private school will be able to use public money to pay for tuition or other expenses.
The bill would bar Iowans from buying fresh meat, white grains, nuts, canned fruits, and other foods with SNAP benefits.
