The Indian government tested its emergency alert system today by sending a sample message to smartphones nationwide, with users receiving a flash message reading 'emergency alert: severe'.
Cell Broadcast is generally used to deliver emergency alerts, during severe weather warnings such as tsunami, flash floods, earthquakes etc.
