Dioxin river findings trigger study for commercial fishers


Dioxins, which can also be formed by natural processes, were found in all sediment testing sites at levels that have not raised officials’ concerns to date.
The report said Queensland Health believed eating fish from the Noosa area “is unlikely to result in an unacceptable risk to public health” for recreational fishers and advises against issuing public advice on the safe levels of local seafood consumption.
However further studies are planned for the local commercial fisheries with the report saying these dioxin levels were also not expected to be of concern.

Fearful parents at Cooran have developed an ad hoc roster system to ensure their children can safely cross the main road after reports of a surge in Kin Kin quarry truck traffic.
Save Noosa Hinterland committee member Naomi Slater said parents had been taking turns supervising crossings from the school to the skatepark across the road.
The mother-of-two children, aged 11 and 9, said the B Doubles last week started rolling through town where school kids often ride, scooter or walk.
The children aren t used to that kind of traffic coming through a quiet rural town, she said. ....
