jharkhand: 12 Maoists surrender in Jharkhand: Police
Twelve Maoists surrendered to security forces in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The rebels, part of Maoist Misir Besra's group, were operating in the Saranda and Kolhan regions, known for Asia's densest Sal forest. West Singhbhum is among the most left wing extremist-affected districts, with 46 Maoist-related incidents and 22 deaths reported last year. The Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat will see voting in interior areas for the first time or after decades, with polling teams and materials being air dropped for residents in Saranda.
