Families devastated as storm hammers Eastern Cape village — again

More than 20 families have been left counting their losses after a heavy storm tore through a village in Xesi (formerly Middledrift), leaving homes and businesses in ruins and disrupting the electricity supply. The devastating storm — the second to hit Kwa-Saki village in three years — struck at about 6pm on Sunday, according to villagers.

ActionSA says it will introduce a 'basic income stimulus' — but won't scrap social grants

More than 80,000 needy Eastern Cape girls to get free sanitary towels

More than 80,000 Eastern Cape girls from poor backgrounds are to receive free sanitary towels, courtesy of the department of social development.Social development MEC Bukiwe Fanta announced on Tuesday that the department had begun the rollout of “sanitary dignity packs”, with one pack designed to last a girl the full school year.
