"There are some peculiarities of satcom - it is a shared spectrum, it is like Wi-Fi. Every home is using the same Wi-Fi frequency, yes or no? Is it easy to auction Wi-Fi? No. If somebody buys it, you can't use it in your home?," Shivaji Chatterjee, managing director at Hughes, told ET.
The US-based Intelsat said that India is an important market for the company. It said that more sectors are likely to embrace satellite services as the country's connectivity needs grow. The company has also teamed up with OneWeb to offer inflight-connectivity services to airlines.
