18% down to 3%? the only word to describe that is tanking. it surprises me actually about the hillary clinton matchups with the gop, is how well ben carson is doing. i understand it among republican primary voters, they have affection for him, evangelical voters as well. but generally, ben carson? he s not exactly a household name and he s beating hillary clinton. can you tell me what is ben carson s position? what s his tax plan? what s his plan on saving entitlements? what s his plan on isis? let s just go down the list. normally you would expect people asking opinions about ben carson they would say, ben who? and meanwhile, there it is rocketing to the top ahead of hillary clinton. he s a good guy, and chuck todd, it s not personal, but i remember going after newt gingrich for spending too much money. somebody said, why is this personal? i said, it s not personal. if my mom were speak are and doing this i d vote her out and it wouldn t be personal. this is not personal when i ....

Budget. start with the budget. do you think that the president s framework that he announced, including change cpi, a gradual way to cut social security benefits, is a good-faith effort on his part? do you think he can actually win some new revenues as a budget deal by doing it? there are nuggets of his budget that i think are optimistic. it s overall a bad plan for the economy, but when you look at cpi, we re beginning to set the stage for the grand bargain. change cpi. harmonize, adjust medicare with social security. means testing for both programs. in return flatten the tax code, generate about $600 billion of revenue. and if you look at these changes over 30 years, this $4 trillion to $5 trillion in savings. i m looking at the biggest spending cut in history by reforms entithtsments, saving entitlements and the president showing a little bit of leg here. this is encouraging. his overall budget is not going to make it but he has made a step forward to the entitlement reform proces ....

Federalism on steroids. but joe, of all the things bobby jindal said last night, the one that you will most agree with is he says the party needs to be taking a bigger stand on fiscal issues. stop fighting these small-potatoes issues, these different cliffs. the party s going to lose those. he says the party should be making a bigger case about taxes, spending, shoot for the mountains and not get dragged down on what he says is clearly democrats and the president s turf. we have to focus, steve, i believe republicans i ve said it time and time again on taxes. on cutting spending. on saving entitlements. on saving america from this crushing national debt. it grew $6 trillion under barack obama over the past term. and try to avoid some of these other issues. but i hear bobby jindal s new federalism on crack talking about cutting federal employees by three-quarters, et cetera, et cetera. that ain t going to happen. ....

You to cut spending. we re borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we spend. if we keep borrowing like president obama proposed, that itself is a drag on economic growth. all of the deficit, all of the debt is one of the greatest threats to our economy and job creation. when will we see the romney plan and the particulars laid out? you have seen more details from mitt romney on fiscal policy, on saving entitlements, getting back to work than the incumbent president of the united states. wait a minute. he proposed a full-blown budget. his budget didn t even try to balance the budget. his budget proposes more debt. more spending. more borrowing. more regulating. it gave us four years of trillion-dollar deficits and proposing more of the same. you answer the charge that you are planning massive tax cuts for the wealthy. at the extense of the middle class. how do you respond to that allegation? what we re saying is get rid of special interest loopholes and deductions that are unique ....
