Hundreds of millions in taxpayer money into something if we are not confident it is worth the work. surveillance cameras provided blurry images. the ground to radar system at times had false detections, unable to tell the difference between humans, cars and animals. the radar system also frequently broke down. and did not perform well in bad weather. in fact, there were so many technical difficulties, a congressional investigation concluded the system may be inoperable two and a half to seven weeks per year. there were cost overruns and boeing, the primary contractor repeatedly missed deadlines. boeing declined to answer specific questions on the record, but said in a statement, it stands behind its work on the sbi net system as a reliable, effective border security tool. homeland security ordered a review of the project. the final report expected possibly in two weeks. ....
