East End emerged as the best-performed Taranaki club at the Eastern Regional Surf Sports contest held at Mt Maunganui from Friday to Sunday last weekend. Competing against much bigger clubs from the larger centres, East End finished in third with 70 competition points, a significant improvement on last season’s sixth place finish. Defending champions Mt Maunganui took out the title once again with a commanding 135 points, followed by Red Beach (Auckland) in second place with 91 points.
