Excitement as Army returns to camp month after attack

A month after a military base in Allawa and Bassa communities in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State was attacked by armed bandits, soldiers, yesterday, returned to their camps where five soldiers and a mobile policeman were killed.
A military convoy comprising 10 Hilux Vans and about 100 motorcycles arrived Allawa and Bassa communities to a warm reception by a crowd of people who came out of their houses in excitement to receive them.
The return of the military follows a series of meeting between the military led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Major-General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi, the state government and other stakeholders in the state. ....

Soldiers Flee As Gunmen Overrun Niger Military Camp, Steal Vehicle

No fewer than 60 bandits invaded the military camp in the early hours of Wednesday in the Zagzaga community in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. They engaged the soldiers in a gun battle, leading to heavy casualties on the side of the bandits.
The latest attack on the military base in the state came barely three weeks after bandits attacked a Security Joint Task Force base in Allawa and Basa in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, killing five soldiers and a policeman. ....

45 killed, dozens missing in 6 Zamfara communities


Daily Trust reports that the communities are in Magami District of Gusau Local Government Area.
These are: ‘Yar Doka, Kango, Ruwan Dawa, Madaba, Arzikin Da and Mairairai.  Residents said armed men first laid siege on ‘Yar Doka village on motorbikes and short any one at sight. The village is about 7 km west of Magami town.
“The whereabouts of dozens of residents who escaped the siege is still unknown,” one of the traumatized residents, said.
It was learnt that from ‘Yar Doka, the attackers proceeded to another village called Kango and shot dead at least 11 people. A resident, Halliru Bala, said the armed men also killed thirteen people in Ruwan Dawa community along Gusau – Dansadau road. The village is 58 km south of Gusau, the state capital. ....
