GARDAI have issued a warning in relation to a number of rental scams which they have been made aware of.
According to divisional crime prevention officer, Sergeant Ber Leetch, people are still being tricked out of a lot of money if targeted.
The most recent one is in the rental market. This is where people are looking to rent either a long-term family home, rent a holiday house for two weeks or students looking for accommodation, she warned.
What happens is a person sees a property online and agrees to rent it following a virtual tour. They are then asked for a deposit and a months rent in advance. This large amount is paid and they only discover that it is a fraud when they call to the property for keys or they try to use keys they have been sent in the post, added Sgt leetch. ....

The incident, occurred in recent days at Steamboat Quay in the city centre.
A lady, aged in her mid-twenties, was approached by another female who asked her for money. The lady opened her purse intending to hand over five euro but the thief saw her fifty euro note and she grabbed it and ran, explained divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch who is appealing to people to be vigilant and to keep their money safe when in public.

GARDAI have issued a warning to motorists following an increase in the number of reported thefts from cars in Limerick.
While incidents have occurred at several locations, it has been revealed a number of cars were entered on the North Circular Road in the city on Sunday night. The typical items taken were phone chargers, tools and cash but you can be sure a very large number of cars were tried, said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch who says people need to be vigilant.
Firstly lock your car. In a large number of thefts, cars are not locked. I’m sure people don’t deliberately leave their cars unlocked so check the car door handle and don’t rely of the flashing lights or the mechanical sounds, she said. ....

GARDAI are warning businesses and shoppers to beware of pickpocketing as the re-opening of the economy continues. 
With more people out and about since this beginning of this week, gardai are appealing to people to be vigilant.
Ladies should invest in a cross body bag if they must bring a bag and make sure that it zips closed. Gentlemen should keep their wallets and phones in front pockets and not in back pockets.
