Gardening equipment stolen from two Cork clubs
Gardaí are warning sports clubs to take crime prevention steps
TWO Cork sports clubs have been targeted by thieves in recent days.
The Garryduff sports centre and Harlequins hockey club in Farmer’s Cross were both hit during the weekend.
At Garryduff, a shed was broken into and gardening equipment was stolen.
Gardening equipment was also stolen from a storage container at Harlequins – including saws, a strimmers and a leaf blower.
Crime prevention officer for Cork city, Sergeant Brian McSweeney, is urging businesses and sports clubs to take crime prevention measures.
He said: “If your business and sports club are currently not active, crime prevention must be a consideration. We have had 2 recent burglaries at sports clubs in Cork. If you have sheds and containers, ensure they are securely locked with a high quality lock. Consider installing a CCTV system. Ensure that the area is well lit.” He adde ....

The injured man was brought to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later discharged.
The incident was later reported to Detective Gardaí in Bishopstown and an investigation commenced, with Gardaí gathering CCTV from the area.
On 16 January, Gardaí from the Serious Crime Units at Togher, Bishopstown and Douglas Garda Stations, with the assistance of the Armed Support Unit, carried out searches at two properties in Cork city but no arrests were made.
The injured party later told Gardaí that he had installed a find my phone app, which Gardaí then utilised.
The phone was traced to a property on Brian Boru Street, where one of the stolen mobile phones and €6,300 of suspected cocaine were found by Gardaí. The suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. ....

A teenager is due to appear in court today charged over an alleged assault and robbery in Cork.
On Thursday last, a man was walking in Bishopstown when he was attacked from behind and punched in the back of the head.
Two men demanded he hand over his two mobile phones and he was struck a second time before the two men left the scene.
The injured man was brought to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later discharged.
Gardaí began an investigation and the injured party later told them he had installed a find my phone” app, which Gardaí then utilised. ....
