why officers failed to enter the school while the attacker was still firing. those shots audible from the outside. here s what we do know at 11:8 a.m. central time, the suspect crashed into a ditch near the school. there is a picture there. he exited the vehicle and fired at two witnesses across the street. at 11:40 a.m., he entered through the west side of the building. there is the video there. two minutes later a teacher sent a text message saying there was an active shooter at the school. it was not until 11:43 that school officials announced they were under lockdown, one minute later, officers entered the school, were shot and and retreated as they called for further forces to join them. it was not until 12 n. 44, one hower later, a tactical team of border patrol uvalde police department made entry and finally shot the suspect. there are several questions, hard questions. understandable ones that have yet to be answered. this morning, inside the classroom with thes ....

even though he was firing shots outside for some 12 minutes, there are so many unanswered questions. here is what we do know. 11:28 a.m. central time the suspect crashed his truck into a ditch near the school. he exited the vehicle, fired at two witnesses across the street. at 11:40 a.m. the gunman entered the school through an unlocked door on the west side of the building. four minutes later, officers entered the school, received gunfire then retreated from the building as they called for backup. it was not until an hour later, full hour, 12:44 p.m. local time that a tactical team made entry and killed the suspect. this morning we are learning more about just what was going on inside that classroom. mia got some blood and put it on herself to pretend she was dead. she had bullet fragments in her back. that poor little girl and so many stories just hike it. we ll have more on mia s story in a moment. let s begin though on the investigation. cnn crime and justice co ....

still chief among the questions out there and why is the police department now backtracking on some of their basic findings? officials are going to be holding a briefing in texas in the next hour. let s begin though at this hour with cnn s rosa flores live in uvalde. rosa, what are you hearing from some of these children who managed to survive? reporter: well, kate, we are hearing about those intense moments when the shooter was inside the classroom, those intense moments when children were trying to do everything they could to survive. they describe the gunfire at first. they thought it was fireworks. you mentioned a little girl who covered herself in blood and played dead to try to survive, to make sure that she could do what she could do at that point in time to survive this terrible tragedy. but here they are, children describing what they lived through in their own words. take a listen. it was very terrifying. that didn t stop one of my friends getting hurt. ....

with gunshots going off. and the trauma this entire ordeal is leaving on such young children. their parents and a nation wishing to wipe away the pain. welcome to the lead. i m pamela brown in for jake tapper. we start today with an absolutely devastating admission about the school shooting in uvalde, texas. for the benefit of hindsight, where i m sitting now, of course, it was not the right decision. it was the wrong decision, period. that statement coming from the thead of the texas departmet of safety. he said officers on the scene should have breached the classroom door immediately. he said the commander on scene decided no more children were at risk. and they allowed the shooter to stay inside the classroom for more than an hour, despite the fact that kids inside the room were calling 911 and begging for police to help. what efforts were the officers making to try and break through either that door or another door to get inside that classroom? none at ....
