Officials in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong have ordered a swift and scientific investigation to address public fears about a swaying landmark skyscraper in Shenzhen.
The orders come as tenants in the SEG Plaza worry about the future of their businesses and the building s management scrambles to find alternative accommodation for clients.
About 15,000 people fled the skyscraper in downtown Shenzhen on Tuesday when the floors began shaking. The shaking continued for two days and the building was closed on Friday for assessment. ....

BEIJING: A skyscraper in southern China that caused panic when it started to shake earlier this week will stay closed for the foreseeable future, the owner of the building said, as the cause of the swaying is investigated.
The 300m SEG Plaza in the southern city of Shenzhen near Hong Kong began shaking in the early afternoon on Tuesday (May 18), prompting people inside and those on the streets below to flee. ....

A 73-storey skyscraper in Shenzen, China, was recently evacuated after it reportedly started shaking for no apparent reason, sending inhabitants into a panic.
On Tuesday afternoon, SEG Plaza, a 20-year-old skyscraper in Shenzen, started wobbling visibly, prompting both people inside and those on the streets below to flee for their lives. Videos shared on social media by people in the vicinity at the time of the freak occurrence, show the giant edifice leaning from one side to the other,  and furniture on the inside shaking. By the time the Shenzhen Emergency Management Bureau evacuated the building, it had stopped shaking, but the plaza remained sealed off until the investigation into the cause of the wobbling was concluded. ....
