A new crisis support space has opened at Mackay Base Hospital in a Queensland-first, providing an alternative to emergency department care for people arriving in distress.
The pilot project is one of eight in Queensland funded by the Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Branch to benefit people experiencing a situational or emotional crisis.
Assistant Health Minister Julieanne Gilbert said the expansion of mental health services was a critically important issue to the Mackay community.
“This is the first crisis support space service in Queensland and is part of our government’s $61.9 million plan for suicide prevention initiatives and enhanced crisis care,” the Mackay MP said. ....
