Kingscliff Changes to building height limits for Kingscliff and the development of parklands and buildings that impacted on some environmentally sensitive areas were two of the sticking issues that led to the rejection of the Gales Holdings rezoning proposal by the Tweed Shire Council at last weeks meeting. Gales Holdings had submitted a proposed ‘Gateway’ determination to the Department of Planning Industry and Environment (DPIE), seeking a planning rezoning related to their Kingscliff Master Plan development. Speaking to The Echo Tweed Shire Council Mayor Chris Cherry (Independent) said, ‘We have just finished Kingscliff Locality Plan (KLP). Then to have something put forward that ignored that – what they are proposing is not the kind of proposal that fits in with the KLP.’ ....

Gunnedah Shire Council Gunnedah Shire will celebrate the achievements of its more than 6000 women and girls and those who have gone before them for International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8. The day to celebrate achievement, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality will be marked in Gunnedah with a host of activities across the month. Gunnedah Shire Council Cultural Precinct Team Leader Lauren Mackley said Gunnedah’s International Women’s Day program offered something for everyone. “Our Shire has many strong and talented women who continue to make a difference, from our Shire Councillors to the women who run businesses, who excel in sport and cultural activities and who care for their families,” she said. ....
Fire destroyed a shed in Cullen St, Nimbin early Sunday morning. The structure was all that remained of the Nimbin Museum after a fire in 2014. It took a long six years, but a future for Nimbin’s old museum site was secured with a Lismore City Council decision in September. The Nimbin Museum, on Cullen St, burnt to the ground on August 14, 2014. After a convoluted process, Lismore City Council granted deferred commencement consent to developers with a new vision for the site. The plan involves retail shops, take away food and drink premises, a 12-seat cafe and a medical centre. ....
