After the long quiet summer of last year, music will return to Calaveras County Parks this year courtesy of the Calaveras Arts Council.

Anne Cook, an artist in Mokelumne Hill, is working on what will be a multi-panel mosaic mural in Shutter Tree Park, which is named for an iron shutter that used to be on Chinese merchant Chung Kee's store in the 1870s through the 1890s. Kee came to California from Guangdong Province, had a store in San Andreas in 1868, and his wife and 10-year-old son joined him in 1870. They moved to Mokelumne Hill in 1872, where Kee opened his store on East Center, and his wife bore him two more children in Mokelumne Hill.
