Apex senior running back Ian Bright made his college commitment on Friday evening, announcing he will play football at Barton College next year.

Two of the state's top offenses met up in Durham on Thursday night in the second round of the 4A playoffs, as top-seeded Hillside survived a scare from 16-seed Hillside by a 46-43 margin.

A touchdown pass from Chase Klingemann to Trey Barbee followed by a batted pass by Nolan Gavigan on fourth down lifted (16) Apex to a 42-35 win over conference foe (17) Panther Creek in the first round of the 4A state playoffs on Friday night.

Ian Bright scored four touchdowns and fellow running back Jayvion Danzy added two himself as No. 15 Apex ran past Middle Creek en route to a 45-6 victory on Friday. The Cougars, now a perfect 8-0 on the year, once again illustrated how they can win with their ground game and strong defense. Friday's win marked Apex's sixth performance with at least 45 points and was also the third time in as many weeks that its defense held the opponent to two scores or less.

Balanced and dominant on offense, no. 18 Apex went on the road and defeated rival Apex Friendship, 42-14, behind three touchdown runs by Ian Bright and three touchdown passes by Chase Klingeman. The rivalry win extended the Cougars' unbeaten run to start the season to seven games, as head coach John Mozerka's team has now scored 42-plus points in five contests this year. With the loss, Friendship is now 3-4 and has lost three straight.
