The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India has tightened rules around verification requirements for customers seeking mobile phone numbers and for point of sale (PoS) entities appointed by telecom operators. This is to curb fraud and phishing activities. Telecom operators will have to verify and register each PoS entity before they can start enrolling customers.
