Amid the figures pronouncing the demise of one politician and the coronation of another, one line in The Sunday Independent’s latest ‘What Ireland Thinks’ survey stood out. It referred to the recent spate of arson attacks at proposed International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centres around the country and the public’s reaction to same. That reaction was not as universal as one might assume, more nuanced than one would dare to believe.

With land at a premium and Wexford County Council seeking to address the worst housing crisis in decades, one local councillor has questioned the actions of those who receive planning permission and, in effect, sit on the land. At a meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC) in Carricklawn, Councillor George Lawlor noted that 1,075 planning permissions had been granted in the county last year but said there was no way of knowing when those houses would be built.

With one Wexford school bus route cancelled and then reinstated at the eleventh hour last week, a local operator say the situation is only going to get worse. Tom Sinnott, who runs 17 school buses out of his garage in Ballycogley, had been operating route D1206 prior to Christmas but was forced to hand it back to Bus Éireann after his driver turned 70 and thus became ineligible.

Wexford School of Ballet & Performing Arts (WSBPA) has donated money to one of its past students as he continues his dance career in England. Following its successful festive show, Sparkle All the Way, which ran in The National Opera House last month, the WSPBA has donated €500 to Paul Whitty as he endeavours to make it big across the water.

A wedding fair with a difference will take place in The Talbot Hotel on Sunday, February 25 as wedding planner Everita Kenny teams up with boarding kennel owner Sinead Ryan for a special fundraising event. Featuring three bridal fashion shows as well as tips and pointers from industry professionals, all funds raised from the fair will go towards the WSPCA, Marine Watch, and the Hope Cancer Support Centre.
