'Astonishingly slow' Wexford coastal protection scheme not due to start in Rosslare until late 2026

The realisation that works to protect the rapidly disappearing coastline at Rosslare Strand are not due to begin for at least two years has left Labour councillor George Lawlor warning of the “monumental difficulties” which lie ahead for people in the area. At a Dáil hearing, Cllr Lawlor’s party colleague, Deputy Brendan Howlin, requested an update on the coastal protection scheme in the Strand from new Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW Kieran O Donnell.

Wexford councillor suggests severing ties with Johnstown Castle over perceived snub

A member of the Rosslare district has called upon the council to sever all ties with Johnstown Castle following a perceived snub for an event last week. The event in question saw a historic stained glass window unveiled at the castle to much fanfare and ceremony. However, despite hosting its annual civic awards at Johnstown and supporting the Jazz at Johnstown event, no one from the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) was invited to the event.

Dementia patient with Covid-19 was locked inside room while Enniscorthy hospital dealt with outbreak of virus

A cognitively-impaired resident who had tested positive for Covid-19 was locked inside an activities room in an Enniscorthy hospital with no way of escape according to a report issued by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA). Carried out at St John’s Community Hospital, Enniscorthy, on January 10 and 11, the HIQA report contained a number of non-compliances, among them an account of a resident locked inside a room while the hospital dealt with a Covid-19 outbreak.

Wexford community pleads with vandals not to destroy replacement defibrillator

A small Wexford community has pleaded with local vandals not to destroy a replacement for the defibrillator which was destroyed on Friday evening last. The defibrillator was installed by the house of Mick Connick in Coolree in 2021 after a concerted fundraising campaign across the surrounding areas. And there it remained until it was discovered in a nearby gripe on the morning of Saturday, April 20.

Public told not to build in Rosslare Strand as their planning will be rejected by Wexford County Council

Those hoping to build houses in Rosslare Stand have been told not to apply for planning as their application will be rejected due to wastewater issues in the village. That was the message coming out of the April meeting of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) as councillors demanded an explanation regarding the ongoing water problems in the Strand.
